Aerosmith: The Bad Boys From Boston

Steven with then-girlfriend Julia:
Aerosmith rocked and rolled their way through America in the 1970's like no one else.  Formed by two kids who met in Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry epitomized the dynamic, charismatic rock frontman and lead guitarist, a blistering combination of bad-ass sex appeal.  They've been one of my favorite bands since I was a teenager, and not just because they're both so unbelievably gorgeous - their self-titled 1973 debut through 1978's Live! Bootleg are six of the greatest albums of ALL TIME.  They had all the ingredients: great, melodic, bluesy riffs (Brad Whitford was a spectcular if underrated rhythm guitarist), lyrics laced with Tyler's signature sexual innuendo, the kind of band tension that breeds almost tangible chemistry, and offstage antics that kept things interesting.  Steven's outlandish (but awesome) stage clothes alone are worthy of comment!  I simply don't understand people that don't like Aerosmith.  They were America's answer to the Rolling Stones (albeit perhaps a little grittier and less brilliant).  My personal favorite tunes:  "Chip Away At The Stone" (they didn't actually write this one, but you'd never know it), "Woman Of The World", "Nobody's Fault", "Spaced", "Big Ten Inch", "No More No More", "Back In The Saddle", "I Wanna Know Why", "Movin' Out", "One Way Street", "Mama Kin"; there are actually too many to mention.  None of the songs on their first six albums suck in the slightest.

Hope you enjoy these pics (all from various 1970s rock mags)! They took for-fucking-ever to scan! (all photos = my scans)

Super photos!

not only was Aerosmith an answer to the Stones,

truth, Stones couldnt pull another super album together after Exile.

but Aerosmith's talent, rock and roll heart, and whatever else
saw them light up rock and roll trough the 80's and into the 90's with Permanent Vac, Pump and so on. Aerosmith proved out on the second half of their career, and rock s better for it. i think it's one of the realities that bothers Mick Jagger.
