This blog is dedicated to Stones goddesses Marianne Faithfull and Anita Pallenberg, whose beauty and strength I find limitlessly inspiring (and whose photos I've spent thousands of dollars collecting and hundreds of hours scanning, so please, read the disclaimer at the bottom of the page, and don't re-post them without credit). This means you, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc., people.

DAVID BOWIE: "One most fun companion at that time was Cyrinda Foxe. Cyrinda had hung out with the Warhol crowd back in NY. Well, she had been virtually adopted by them. They had her pegged as their very own Marilyn Monroe. Andy loved her, took her out to fun places, had her dine in fancy restaurants, got her introduced to big stars. She had also had a small part in the infamous New York production of Pork and I think that if events hadn't taken over her life she may have had a good chance of doing a lot more theatre. What I liked about her so much was that although she had been exposed to the most caustic and world-weary set of queens ever unleashed, she retained innocence and had a light but effective sense of humour. She rarely drank or drugged, she didn't fuck around with too many guys. She really seemed to enjoy life just for what it was. She was FUN to be with. I would get her to tell me how she met Marcel Duchamp, what did he wear, what did they talk about, did the old genius hit on her?"

A Fix and a Kiss

Cyrinda Foxe (Part 2):
Cyrinda Foxe and David Johansen were the toast of the hip New York City rock scene in the mid 1970s. She was a young actress who modeled her look after Marilyn Monroe and hung out with the likes of Andy Warhol, David Bowie, and famed transvestite Candy Darling. He was the front man of 1973’s hottest east-coast band, the New York Dolls, and looked like Mick Jagger and dressed like a whore. The Dolls were on fire back then; tight playing, great get-ups, and adored by critics. Their self-titled release, out that year, is one of my all-time favorite records. Unfortunately, the masses didn’t ‘get’ the whole cross dressing-rock n’ rolling-punky-glitter-blues thing back then, but they certainly (unknowingly) bought into it in the 1980s, when many hair bands like Motley Crue and Guns n’ Roses rose to fame, citing the Dolls as a major influence.
Anyway, Cyrinda and David were Max’s Kansas City royalty; Rock Scene constantly published photos and gossip about the couple in their bi-monthly magazine, and they were deeply in love. However, by the time they finally tied the knot in 1977, it was too little too late. The Dolls’ failure to take off commercially had disbanded the group in ’75. The stalling of David’s career led to the newlyweds living in a shabby apartment not to her liking or expectation, and fights were frequent. Looking back on it, I don’t see why she even married him, since things had been going from bad to worse for at least a year. However, it’s quite fun to look at those old photos and remember a great rock n’ roll couple often forgotten.

Talking 'bout Monroe and walking on snow white...

Cyrinda Foxe (far-left) with Angela Bowie:

Iggy Pop, Cyrinda, and Bowie:

Cyrinda Foxe (Blog Part 1) was a Pisces born in 1952. She ran away from home to New York City as a teenager, met good friend Leee Black Childers and became a darling of the New York rock club scene, holding court upstairs at Max's Kansas City. When David Bowie came to town, he and wife Angie were only going to hang at the hippest spots, and he inevitably met Cyrinda and they began an affair. She also became very close friends with Angela. Cyrinda, whose autobio "Dream On", though terribly written, I HAVE indeed read, says that David wrote "The Jean Genie" for her, although it's about Iggy Pop. She explains that David wanted to wrote her a song, so she told him she'd like something that sounded like the Yardbirds. Here are photos of Cyrinda and David in the music video for the fantastic '73 tune.
