This blog is dedicated to Stones goddesses Marianne Faithfull and Anita Pallenberg, whose beauty and strength I find limitlessly inspiring (and whose photos I've spent thousands of dollars collecting and hundreds of hours scanning, so please, read the disclaimer at the bottom of the page, and don't re-post them without credit). This means you, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc., people.

Marianne Faithfull in Valentine Pop Special '66
"It takes all sorts to make the pop world. Marianne was certainly out of the ordinary: a Reading convent schoolgirl discovered singing at a party by Andrew Oldham, the Rolling Stones manager. She is the daughter of a Baroness (not that this affects her at all) and is a slim, lissome, long-haired blonde with a shy smile and none of the usual personality attributes of a pop star girl. Her style of music with its strong folky flavour was well captured by songs like As Tears Go By, (A Rolling Stones' original composition), Blowing In The Wind (by Bob Dylan) and Come and Stay With Me (by Jackie de Shannon). At the height of her pop success Marianne became married to John Dunbow. Hope this doesn't take her away from the pop world entirely."
That is the text on the page featuring Marianne in the little booklet called Valentine Pop Special '66, with all it's tiny grammatical errors and misspellings! I especially like the line, "She is the daughter of a Baroness (not that this affects her at all)..." Some of these old magazines are full of hilarious captions and anecdotes of that nature. I'm sure Marianne would laugh at it, too.
I have scanned so many great Mari (and Anita too, of course) photos from magazines, books, prints I've purchased, etc that I haven't posted, because I always feel like I'm saving them for some epic post, but these three from Valentine I've had for a while and thought I'd share. I should be getting some great magazines with stuff from The Girl On A Motorcycle in the mail this week, so I'll be sure to put those up soon. I buy a lot of my magazines from the same eBay seller, and he has fantastic stuff and is such a pleasure. Check out his store: http://shop.ebay.com/happyday82903/m.html. For the past several months (since June or July, I think), I pretty much only use my own photos on my blog so as not to "take" them from other sites, but damn, it is expensive! I had a bunch of Stones books already, but I've probably spent at least $1,000, probably more, since then buying this stuff! It's always nice to have the big version of the pictures, though. Some of the good ones you find via Google images or what have you are so small. There is an Anita Livejournal page out there somewhere, and that has huge, high-quality photos of her. I've been looking into buying a flatbed photo scanner (the one I use at my office is not very good at all, and is probably meant mostly for scanning documents), so anyone with suggestions, please let me know!
