True Britt

So, my interest in beautiful it-girls of the 1960's with ties to rock n' roll has expanded to include Swedish-born stunner Britt Ekland. Britt was absolutely gorgeous; I can't imagine a credible list of the all time most beautiful women and her NOT being in the top 20.  She was that ever-favored combination of sultry and innocent, causing men to want to simultaneously sleep with and protect her.  I bought her autobiography the other day, True Britt, where some of these photos are scanned from, although I haven't yet read it. From what I've heard of the book, it doesn't exactly establish her as a great intellectual mind (filled with hilarious quotes about her various lovers), but I look forward to reading it nonetheless.

Britt appeared on "the scene" in 1964, after Peter Sellers saw her photo in the newspaper and was so taken by her looks that he invited her to meet him at a hotel in London and proposed shortly thereafter. In January of the following year, she gave birth to their only child (together, that is), a daughter they called Victoria. She appeared in two of his films in 1966 and '67, and then divorced him in 1968. Although appearing in a string of movies, her only really famous and acclaimed roles were in 1973's The Wicker Man and 1974's Bond flick The Man With The Golden Gun. In 1975, Joan Collins introduced her to Rod Stewart, one of rock's most notorious and eligible bachelors.  She and Rod were photographed together constantly (I will do a post on them later) and for a while they seemed in relative domestic bliss.  However, they split up in 1977 after Britt got fed up with Rod's infidelity. She attempted to sue him for $12 million, claiming that she had given up her career to focus on him and the relationship, but the case was dismissed and she, obviously, was not awarded the money. She briefly dated Ted Nugent in 1979, then Phil Lewis of the band Girl (who later became the lead singer of the great 80's metal band LA Guns), and finally settled on (for a time) Stray Cats drummer Slim Jim Phantom, who she married in 1984 and divorced in 1992.

Hope you enjoy these photos I've scanned of her.
