Aero-fuckin'-smith

In honor of the hideously uncool sell-out move of Steven Tyler being a judge on American Idol now, I decided to post some of the Aerosmith photos that I've scanned in the past few months. These photos were taken from old Creems and Rock Scenes, from Circus and Hit Parader and Rolling Stone, photos that celebrated the birth of a bad-ass band from Boston who played louder, rocked harder, and sounded better than anyone else. This was a band fed on the Stones and the Yardbirds, who played in barns and made roots rock starring sex and guitar solos, the rhythm section pounding like a libido. Tyler's sinewy body, clad in catsuits and crooked smiles; the inimitable cool of Joe Perry, rugged in his denim and leather. Back when the Twins were still Toxic. Enjoy. All photos = my scans.

I so enjoy each and every entry in your blog, blending as it does historical interest and your own communicable enthusiasm. That you routinely spotlight some of the 20th Century's coolest people doesn't hurt, either.

I would take exception, however, with this post. Tyler & Co. were hideously uncool long before AmerIdol reared its ugly head. Aerosmith's success has mystified me since their 70s salad days. It's as though one of those grotesque 'cover bands' from the barrens of New Jersey ("Parallel Lines does the Blondie show!") went multiple-platinum. Aerosmith are the Woolworth Stones, full stop.

I always thought steven tyler and joe perry were wanna be glimmer twins.
But still these are cool pictures.
Keep up the good work Leith!

He's cute. But he's no Mick Jagger ;-)

Have you heard that Mick is rumoured to have agreed to become an X-factor judge when the show comes to the US?

Oh my gosh... I'm shaking because I finally found someone that likes Aerosmith! I'm Bailey Peterson. I am absolutely in love with Aerosmith. Steven and Joe are Greek Gods in my eyes. However, I only enjoy them during 1970-1979. I totally agree with you about Steven joining American Idol. And I adore the 1960's and 1970's rock n' roll. The 60's and (mainly) the 70's is really what I live for. It is the only thing on my mind. Everything I do is influenced on the 70's and Aerosmith. I am very grateful that you have this wonderful blog. Many of these pictures are flawless and I have never seen them for the days that I search about Aerosmith! This is a magnificent blog, so I say, thank you.
